Before you design and install a new storage solution for your garage it is important that you have a plan developed. When you have come to a decision about the type of storage you will need, based on what it is you think you will need to store, then everything else that needs to be done will be simple. The need to pre-plan is similar to deciding on whether to have painted cabinets in your kitchen or not, you must know what the rest of the space will look like.

Here are some questions that you need to answer before you install a garage storage system. They will help in finalizing a good plan so that you can take exact action and not waste any time.

Do I need a work area

You can incorporate a garage work bench into a storage system very easily or you can put it on wheels so that you can move it around as you wish. The question will be whether there is enough room in the garage for a work area. Do you need to have drawers so that you can store small items, tools, or parts? Should you make your work bench mobile or stationary? What kind of top surface should you have?

Pegboard or slot wall to hang things from?

Where a lot of storage area is not needed, a pegboard or slot wall can be a good option. These options can be hung from the wall needing only hooks and baskets as accessories.

What configurations, style, and size should the wall cabinets be?

Garage cabinets help to keep things out of sight and off the floor. There are many options when it comes on to cabinets. Choose the kind the material make of the cabinets made. They are generally made from either metal, wood, or plastic.

The success of a long term renovation or building project is largely determined by the way in which the finances are organized. I have long been a fan of the TV program Grand Designs, and find it fascinating to see how people manage, finance and organize large projects, and it helps me to see the problems and solutions that people encounter. With my own project, I had to ensure that the finances and spending structure were all in place before the building work began, as I knew that I would not be able to conjure up any more funds once building began.

There are a number of things that can help to ensure that the budget is stuck to as closely as possible, and most of them involve hard work by you, instead of spending out on labor costs. You may be able to pay a professional plumber Kensington to plumb in a bathroom or kitchen, but if you can learn how to do this yourself then it is going to save you lots of money. It all comes down to an eqyation between time and money available. If you have lots of time and not much money, it is possible to learn skills yourself and do the work, if you do not have much time but have an adequate budget, getting the professionals in could be the best option.

Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds you plant.

The other important thing to consider is the material costs, by spending a lot of time researching the cheapest and most effective material types and best places to buy those from. Some materials are overpriced due to their high demand, whereas it is possible to get hold of much cheaper and suitable alternative materials. Buying recycled materials is a very good option in many circumstances as the prices are reasonable, and the environmental advantages are added into the equation.

Now that I have spent more than two years in the process of my converting my old barn into a decorative genius and have almost achieved what I aimed for, I am now looking to covert one of the most important parts of my house, the bathrooms. Although the bathroom is not the busiest room in a home but it is an important area where you are able to find leisure and unwind yourself from the stress of the day. Therefore, it had to be special.

There are various options available for bathroom conversion. The simplest one is calling my friend who is a professional decorator Chelsea. I ruled out that option considering the long distance that he may need to travel. So, I referred to the most genius person in the world, Mr Google. I came across various kinds of wall decors available along the lines of clinging, sculpture and stainless steel artworks.

But all these were exceeding my budget. So, I decided to settle down with wall decals. Though, it is easy to manage with traditional tiles and white color, using wall decals can change the entire look of the bathroom. It can make a difference to the usual white tiles of the bathroom and add a lively feel to it. While searching for designs I came across a wide variety of designs ranging from flower patterns to signs, alphabets, random blocks and what not. I was too confused to select one out of hundred designs lying in front of me. So, I decided to settle down with personalized wall decals.

In addition to the beauty quotient, the reasons that made me select wall decals for my bathroom were its affordability and durability. I wanted something that will last for years now. I am going for an antique look and have sent my design to the store owners. Waiting eagerly to see the final piece!

Project managing any type of conversion can be an arduous task, whether it is a complete renovation of abandoned buildings in the middle of the Scottish countryside, house extensions north london way or a complex barn conversion like ours. Trying to keep sight of the light at the end of the tunnel is a real struggle, especially when your budget is being stretched further and further, or worse still blown completely. Most people will be doing the work alongside their normal full time employment meaning that after a hard day at the office or on the road evenings are spent at the site working rather than relaxing with a glass of wine.

However once the building work is done, windows and doors in place and carpets or flooring laid, the real fun can begin. Interior designing and decorating your new renovation is the real joyous part of the whole project, and a time to really out your own unique stamp on your home.

Before decoration begins it’s worthwhile taking time to sit down and really think about the concept or theme you want to run with. Without doing this prior to hitting the stores or scouring the internet to buy bits and pieces you may make some costly impulsive purchases.. Once you start looking and shopping for bits and bobs you may easily be swayed by the many lovely colours, ornaments fittings and fixtures on offer, and end up with a true mismatch effect in your new space. Try to come up with a colour scheme first and foremost, this will shape the decisions you have to make around furniture and ornaments in the room. Furthermore, come up with a theme or concept which will guide your purchases further, shabby chic, seventies. Minimalist and so forth.. But most importantly enjoy this part of the project and feel proud you’ve come far enough to reach this stage!

DIY loft conversions can be a great way to add to the value of your property, without having to pay for professionals, and make the most of your unused space. If you are considering a loft conversion but are unsure whether or not it will be worth while, then we suggest you look at the following points to help determine exactly how much work will be needed to turn your loft into a room.

Planning Permission:Fortunately most loft conversions do not require planning permission and fall within your development rights. Planning permission is only required if you want to alter the existing roof, create a dormer or if your home is in a conservation area or a listed building. If none of these apply then you can put your chess sets away as you don’t need to practice any complicated strategies for gaining permission, you are free to convert.
You must make sure however that all your work meets the building regulations however and legally it needs to be inspected by a Building Control Surveyor. Things to check to meet the regulations will be the structural stability, ventilation, fire escape and insulation. You should be able to find a detailed list of building regulations on you local council website.

Space:There is no point considering a loft conversion unless you have a loft big enough to convert. You will need a head height of roughly between two and two and a half meters across 50% of the floor in order to make the conversion worthwhile. You also need to take into account that the completed room will be smaller than the unfinished loft as the insulation, lining and strengthening you may have to put into the walls and floor will shrink the space noticeably. Further to this the installation of a stair case will eat into the completed room’s foot plan again taking away from the space and reducing the size of the room.
These are just two issues to look at concerning conversions, but weatherproofing and the installation of further windows are also areas that will need investigation. If you have decided that there is enough space available however and are spurred on by the lack of planning permission needed, then we wish you the best of luck. Loft conversions can be an exciting way to reinvent your home.

It is interesting to note that around the world there are several thousands who are doing up their existing homes in various different ways to accommodate more articles and/ or family members. There are others who lack the huge funds required to construct a proper house right from scratch and therefore decide to take up a basic existing structure, make additions and modifications to it and make it into their sweet home. There are some other individuals who are always ones to try out new, innovative ideas and hence take up some old structure making it into an exclusive home, the likes of which are not found so easily.

Many might wonder if it is practicable to engage in basement conversions London and adapt cellars into living spaces. Essentially the space below homes is used as parking for vehicles or for dumping things that have outlived their use. This is because in cold, wet climes like London the area below the ground is likely to be damp while in tropical places it could be hot and uncomfortable. But when a home owner is hard pressed for space, he/ she may be forced to think of ways to make the existing area on hand more useful – like making a cosy library or building a nice indoor pool or putting up a plush home office in the home’s basement region.

Fortunately, there are many systems today for making the basement spaces weather proof and raising them to the status of a comfy living area. Once this waterproofing, damp protection and AC fixing is done and the basement is made into a single, plain room, fixtures like walls, furniture, lighting, doors etc. can be easily added. In this way many a home owner has been able to get much extra and pleasant room into their homes.

Last winter we had heavy snow which damaged our roof. It was not as bad at that time, but now it’s leaking. I tried to find some good roofers to come and fix it, but no luck. So, finally I decided to fix it myself. I researched the steps and called a friend of mine to help me. It was not as difficult as I thought, and I also saved money.

It was good learning experience. When you fix the roof there are certain things you must know in order to be safe and to get the work done well.

· Your safety comes first. It is not wise and also pretty dangerous to try to find the leak as soon as it starts, you have to wait until weather conditions get better. If you really want to do it the right way then forget about the quick fixes.

How to find out whether a structure on a plot of land owned by you is dangerous or not? I was always of the opinion that a structure that shakes and shivers a lot is automatically a dangerous one. Since I spend bulk of my time around hr software solutions, I have absolutely no idea how structures should be analyzed.

Of course, I thought it was not necessary to consult a professional when me and my wife decided to rebuild our barn. In the hindsight, that seems like the silliest idea that we ever came up with.

A bit of research on the internet told me that the stability of a structure depends on the depth of its foundation, the condition of its beams and columns and the condition of other parts of the structure. I discovered that my barn was not a dangerous place at all. The foundation and the columns and beams were in great state.

There were certain parts which had rotted and this was causing the structure to shiver and shudder every time the wind blew hard. I had to spend money to repair these aspects but my presumption that I will have to pull down the barn was unfounded.

As I continued working on the barn, I discovered many other small rules and trivia details about structures. Everything is very logical and the basic or core part of the structure is the most important one. Once you have the core in a strong position, you can modify the other parts anyway you want.

Placement of window does not matter as long as the columns and beams are in great shape. However, removing a part of the column simply because you want to get rid of the window can inadvertently weaken your structure.

Building a new house is a huge undertaking, but what many people don’t realise is that restoring an old house can be just as much of a nightmare…

Take when we had to strip our wood down, for example. Now that was not fun…

As I knew nothing about wood, I had assumed when we bought our place that it would all be fine. Rot wasn’t something which I knew much about, but I also hadn’t heard anyone mention it when we bought our barn either. For these two reasons I suppose I was a bit naïve. OK, very naïve about what was in store for us…I just thought all the wood in the old barn would be usable. But I wasn’t right about that…

It seemed that the more wood we looked at, the more of it we had to chuck away. Much of it was rotten, and as the search went on I ad this horrible feeling growing inside me…that there would eventually be nothing left and we would have to start again with the entire project.

I always have been a bit dramatic, though.

it took some time but eventually we were ready to apply the wax to it. I know it sounds like utter madness but we wanted to wax a number of the beams

What actually happened was this: probably about a quarter of the wood was useless and had to come down. The rest of it, though, was very old but also very hard Oak. It was going to be fine! And so we got started with stripping the surface off the wood. It wasn’t a special kind of listed building and so we were able to do this without getting it in the neck from the conservation people who don’t like that kind of thing.

We used a kind of sand-blasting machine to attack the wood and this was when it really started to look better. Stripped back, it took some time but eventually we were ready to apply the wax to it. I know it sounds like utter madness but we wanted to wax a number of the beams, especially the ones at a low level. We wanted them to shine as if they were new, but with the grain showing through so they looked really traditional and good.

I won’t lie to you about it, it was hard bloomin'work! But the point was that once it was done I could stop pretending I was looking at hybrid cars uk web-site – I had told the boys that the only place I could get good wi-fi coverage was in the barn… – and get on with enjoying our brand-new space.

A barn conversion is one of the best and widely trusted ways of adding value to a current property, but it is nonetheless essential to think about the process carefully in advance in order to reach full potential. The jury is still out as to what provides the number one way of boosting values, but an ancillary property is never far from the top. With this is mind, the following consists of three of the best ideas for basic barn conversions guaranteed to see property prices soar:

1 – Gym – Something of a no-brainer really as a gym needs very little by way of luxuries, electrics, decorative touches or even general utilities. The fancier the better of course, but a simple conversion with enough space for the desired equipment and cupboard for the obligatory whey protein powder is often enough to see interest peak.

2 – Office – The home office has become more and more of a standard requirement of late, though those actually located within the main home itself are often rather limited. Consider an external office by way of barn conversion on the other hand and it could not be easier to set up a fully functional workplace in its own right with all mod cons and wireless connection a-plenty.

3 – Games Room – Often overlooked by those assuming expense will be on the high side, a games room is all but guaranteed to pay for itself by way of property values. Again, conveniences and décor can be kept minimal if wished, sourcing games, toys and maybe even a second hand pool table from the internet to give the place a whole new dynamic.
