Converting a barn: spacial awareness
I’m not afraid to say that my spacial awareness isn’t that good. I’m not much good at parking, and my ability to read maps also…hm, leaves a lot to be desired, you might say. For this reason, when it came to converting our barn and imagining where the rooms would be, I found it very difficult.
Which is why I feel I must thank my graphic designer friend again: he came along and made it easy to visualise things. In turn, this put my mind at ease, which was very welcome.
So I suppose what I’m saying is that don’t just make do with a few rubbish plans on a few scraps of tea-stained paper. If you want to get it right, get it right at the beginning! If you start off knowing where all the rooms will be, it also enables you to move on very swiftly when it comes to the actual building. If you don’t plan then believe me, you might keep changing your mind. Worse than that, you may actually HATE what you finally end up living with…
And don’t worry, you don’t need amazing computer simulations or any of that expensive stuff. You can get a really good idea of how it’ll all look from some plans on paper alone.
Trust me, I’ve been there: even if your job is very efficiently designing low emission cars , designing a house is a very different animal. Get an expert in and save yourself loads of time and hassle!
